Death of Mr. Montgomery Occasion Of Sorrow

One of the most useful and quiet citizens of the county, Mr. S. Booker
Montgomery, closed his earthly career unexpectedly to his family and friends
about nine o’clock Thursday night of last week.

Mr. Montgomery, who besides being one of the best citizens of the county, was a
very successful farmer.  He was a resident of Panhandle district where he
superintended his own farm and did much of his own work.  It was while in the
usual pursuit of his labors that he was called hence.  At the time of his death
Mr. Montgomery was making syrup, apoplexy causing his death.  He lived but a few
moments after being stricken.  He was in his usual seemingly good health up to
the time of the attack.

Mr. Montgomery was born and reared in this county, and would have been 71 years
old if he had lived until February 14 next.  He is survived by his widow, four
sons and two daughters, viz: Messrs. O.R., B.M., James and Thomas Montgomery;
Mrs. R.F. Barfield and Mrs. E.E. Fuller.  He also leaves one brother, Mr. Lester
Montgomery, of this county and one sister, Mrs. Adna McCrary of Worth County.

The funeral and interment occurred at Crowell Friday afternoon, Rev. L.A.
Harrell conducting the last sad rites.

Mr. Montgomery was a standard-bearer in the church at old Crowell Methodist
Church where he had worshipped all of his life, and while the church will
greatly miss him, his death has been an irreparable loss to the community and to
the county.
