December, 1882 Vol. 4 No.12 Burrel H. Mobley: This dear brother departed this life in Butler, 29th September, 1882, in the 31st year of his age. He moved here last winter to prosecute his profession, which was that of a music teacher, and dealer in musical instruments. He joined our church at Butler (Primitive Baptist Church near Butler High School), and was a beloved member. It is thought he contacted bronchitis from excessive exposure last winter in moving and fixing to move. He was pressed in mind during the time, and was in great straits, and, no doubt, the mental depression had much to do with his physical debility. He was too feeble in a very short time after his arrival to prosecute his business, and I gave him all the employment I could, until he became too weak for physical labor, and I then gave him all I could in transcribing for the MESSENGER, which was but little, but soon he became too feeble for that. He gradually declined until he was confined to his house and yard, and eventually to his bed. The brethren and friends were very kind to him, administering to him and family generously, and visiting them. "I was," he wrote, "left fatherless at four years old. My mother was poor, and the war coming on, I had no chance to learn anything, except to speed the plow. (long article on his experience) "I was received into the fellowship of County Line Church, Jones County, Ga., the first Sunday in August, 1878, and was baptized by Elder D. L. Hitchcock." (More on his experience at Butler Church and his life) The morning he died he was unconscious when I got to his bedside. He embraced his dear wife and two little children most affectionately, saying he was "ready to go" and died, three o'clock in the morning. He was ready, as I verily believe. I am glad I knew him, and hope to meet him in glory. Elder John Richard Respess. (Burrel H. Mobley is buried at Butler Memorial Cemetery in Butler, Ga. His grave is marked. He was born October 30,1851 and died September 29, 1882. His wife's maiden name was Newbry. Her father's death is listed in the Butler Herald, March 7,1882.
