I.F. Griffith The sad news of the sudden and unexpected death of Rev. I.F. Griffith, which occurred at his home at Mancos, Colorado at 7 o’clock Saturday afternoon was received by wire Sunday morning. The news of the death of Mr. Griffith will carry sorrow to many hearts as he was loved and honored by all who knew him. Mr. Griffith was born and reared in this county, a zealous minister of the gospel and until recently a member of the South Georgia Conference who had been preaching 33 years, filling some of the best appointments in the conference. As a man and minister he was popular and as a Christian he was beyond criticism. Mr. Griffith severed his connection with the South Georgia Conference last November to move with his family consisting of his wife and four children to Colorado to be with his daughter who had previously gone to Mancos for her health. Truly a good man has gone to his reward, one who espoused the religion he professed whose church and family have suffered an irreparable loss. He leaves a devoted wife and five children, Misses Hattie and Susie, Mr. Alvin Griffith, of Norfolk, Va., Mr. Charles Griffith of Mancos and Mrs. T.A. Coleman of Elko, Ga., and one brother, Mr. W.J. Griffith, of Reynolds, Ga. The remains of Mr. Griffith were interred at Mancos, Col. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends and relatives. – Butler Herald The Talbotton New Era Thursday, March 26, 1908 Page 2 Died Suddenly Rev. J.G. Harrison has received a letter from Miss Susie Griffith at Mancos, Colorado, in which she gives the details of the death of her father, Rev. I.F. Griffith. We published an account of his death a few weeks ago but could not give an accounting of the details. Mr. Griffith ate supper on the evening of his death with his family, and seemed as well as usual. He was in high spirits and laughed and joked with his family. He retired about eight o’clock. In a few minutes his son called Mrs. Griffith and told her that his father was sick. When she reached the bed, he was dead. Mrs. Griffith will remain in Colorado for some time. Her daughter, Miss Hattie Griffith, is in very poor health and also her son, Mr. Alvin Griffith. She is in the west, hoping that the climate may improve her children’s condition. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.9 Kb
