Benns, senior editor of the Butler Herald died at his home in Butler this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Mr. Benns was one of the most prominent citizens of this place and has been the editor and proprietor of the Butler Herald for 33 years, during which time he has made it one of the best weekly papers in the State. He was a life long and consistent member of the Methodist Church. He began life without a penny but by pluck and energy and patient endeavor he succeeded in making of it a well-rounded success. Besides many relatives and friends Mr. Benns leaves a wife and two sons, Chas. E. Benns, Jr., editor of the Butler Herald, and Mr. Brooks Benns, both of this place. – Macon Telegraph The Talbotton New Era Thursday, July 1, 1909 Page 6 Genial, kindly Editor Benns is dead. Honored and respected by all who knew him, he had entered into that rest prepared for the faithful and the Butler Herald will live after him as a fitting memorial of his perseverance and energy.
