Ruffin Mr. James J. Ruffin after an illness of less than three days quietly breathed his last at his home in Reynolds at 6 o'clock on Tuesday morning Feb 21, 1905. Mr. Ruffin was 90 years 3 months and 6 days of age, consequently he was one of the oldest and best known citizens of the county -- a gentleman of good health and fine constitution. Saturday evening he was feeling a little unwell and decided he would take a rest. Sunday morning he showed signs of considerable weakness and a physician was called in who saw at once that but little relief could be given as there was no pain or suffering but a weakness from old age and giving away of his entire physical system. His system continued to weaken and on Tuesday morning he quietly passed unto rest like the fading away of a candle. Mr. Ruffin in every walk of life was a good and true man. By honestly, perseverances and economy he managed to lay aside a comfortable living for his family and leaves to the world a rich inheritance of deeds. He was born in South Carolina [error: North Carolina] but in early life came to Georgia and in 1861 he settled in Butler where he lived for many years and moved to Reynolds a few years ago. Mr. Ruffin was also a brave soldier who served his country faithfully in the Indian and Confederate war. He was not a member of any church but tried to be governed by the golden rule and in this he exemplified a true Christian character, that might well be emulated. His death was a sad shock to his family and friends but they have the comforting assurance that he lived well and died in the trumph of peace. Mr. Ruffin leaves two sons and two daughters. Messrs G.T. Ruffin, of Reynolds; H.J. Ruffin of Alma, Texas; Mrs. S.L. Parker of Roane, Texas and Mrs. M.E. Layfield of Hart, Indian Territory besides a devoted wife and many friends and relatives to mourn their loss. His remains were interred in the cemetery at Little Vine near Reynolds on Wednesday morning, the funeral service conducted by Rev. J. Swain.
