I. Powell sympathise with him and his family at the death of his youngest child, Essie Willie which occurred at the residence of its grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Slate Hill last Wednesday night, after a short illness of four days. The precious babe was deprived of a mother’s love less that 12 months ago, but found a nestling place in the hearts of grandparents, and a still closer embrace in the bleeding heart of a grief stricken father. Little Essie was about 18 months old. Brother Farmer performed the sad service over this precious little form. The entire community deeply sympathise with the afflicted family. NOTES: Essie Willie Powell was the daughter of William Ingram Powell & first wife, Mandy Frances "Fannie" Hill. The child's mother died August 5, 1895. William I. Powell was also one time owner of the large hotel & resort at Miona Springs in Macon Co. The grandparents mentioned here are Slaughter Hill & Missouri Annice Moulton.
