He was the only child of Newsome and Lee Carter. His father died when he was an infant, so he was left to be reared by his widowed mother, and well did she do her duty in molding his character. He was an ideal son, obedient to every wish of his mother; modest, but manly and full of ambition – a pride to his mother and a joy to his friends. Strong in sympathy, generous and kind, his name was a synonym of truth and integrity. He joined the Methodist church when only nine years old and was happily converted and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a passionate lover of music and his friends often enjoyed the melody of his voice and the sweet strains from his skillful fingers. While we are no more thrilled to our hearts by his magic touch, we know that he has joined the heavenly choir and his spirit, freed from its sufferings, joins in glad hosannas to the Lamb. Note: The rest of the obit is blurred and difficult to read. At the end of the article, it states the obituary was written by a friend.
