Salzer Died in Butler Wednesday After an illness of several months Mrs. Chas. Salzer died in this city about four o’clock last Wednesday morning from general debility. She had been in declining health for several years, but was confined to her bed for only a week or ten days. Her extreme condition was not realized by her friends until a short time before the end which came almost like a dream, but in these last hours it was quite pleasant to see her friends, rallying around ministering to her every want and need. Her children who live in distant cities in response to a summons arrived here on Monday and were with her in the dying hours as was also her sister, Mrs. Werner, of Savannah. Mrs. Salzer was 59 years old. A German by birth, but came to this city with her husband about 20 years ago. She lived to raise six children all of whom are living monuments to her memory. These have all married except one and each into prominent and influential families. Two of her sons, Messrs. G.V. and J.J. reside at Jacksonville and are doing well, the third son, Grover, is a popular young man of our town. Of her daughters, there are three, viz.: Mrs. W.H. Wright of Macon, Mrs. O.S. Cox and Mrs. R.E. Wilson of this place. Mrs. Salzer joined the Lutheran Church at Savannah many years before coming to Butler. There being no church here of that denomination Mrs. Salzer’s membership was left at Savannah and to this church she was ever loyal. To her friends she often proclaimed her trust in God and readiness and willingness to meet Him. Very impressive funeral service was conducted at the family residence Thursday afternoon attended by a large crowd. The service was conducted by Rev. S.W. Brown both at the home and the grave. Card of Thanks Through the courtesy of The Herald we take this opportunity of expressing to our kind friends our deep appreciation of their loving ministrations and attention during the last illness of our loved one. Words can never express what a balm to our hearts it is to think of your goodness, tenderness and cordial sympathy. No wealth that this world affords would be pure enough to reimburse you for your sacrifices of physical strength and comfort, if it were possible to measure such service by this standard and we can only say, “God bless you.” The thought of your kindness will ever remain a bright spot on our memories and tend to make us more considerate of others, and our own lives sweeter and better for it.
