Whittington As the morning star ushered the dawn of “the day of rest” on Nov. 18th death ushered the dawn of eternal rest to Mr. T.J. Whittington; he was born March 14, 1851 in Taylor County where he was reared; he was married to Miss Amelia Bates January 9, 1870. To this happy union there were born twelve children of whom seven children and a wife preceded him to the “land of rest.” As a friend Uncle Joe was loved by all who knew him and his warm and loyal heart made his friendship a jewel to be prized and his hand of friendship was often reaching out to sooth some troubled brow or to raise some crushed spirit and point them to the “crowning day that’s coming bye and bye.” As a father he was kind, gentle and loving, never tiring at waiting on the little ones and smoothing their little crushed hearts by folding the tenderest arms around them and pressing them to a loving father’s breast as only such love can be felt by those who need a father’s care and as these dear children had been deprived of a mother’s love for three years. Why papa should be taken so suddenly is another of the many decrees of Providence that we cannot understand. All that is left to do is to bow submissively, tho with broken hearts, and try to feel it was for the best. We must realize more fully that the power to give and take belongs to our God and He alone can save. We must increase our faith in Him that when the time shall come to close our eyes on Nature’s beauty we shall open them in that beautiful city where we shall know no parting but one eternal happiness. He has joined the goodly company of the redeemed and the sweet children and wife awaiting him in the better land and those who so deeply mourn his death now will, if faithful to God, greet him with rejoicings as one by one they gather into the blessed eternal home. The bereaved loved ones have the sympathy of all who knew him but let us feel that “when our life work is ended and our time shall be no more we will be prepared to meet our loved ones on the other shore.” He united with the Missionary Baptist Church at Reynolds at the age of fourteen and lived a consecrated member there until the Lord had need for him in his beautiful home above. His remains were interred in New Hope Cemetery near Reynolds. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.9 Kb
