Alexander The grim reaper that spares none has made another draw on that fast diminishing body of old confederate veterans. This time Mr. David Alexander received the summons and on the day of the Veterans reunion in Butler last week his remains were gently laid in the cold and silent tomb. He succumbed to heart failure Sunday night August 6 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.I. Parks two miles south of Reynolds. He volunteered to the call of his country in 1861 and joined Company E, Third Georgia Regiment with which he rendered valuable service for about one year when he was sent to Florida for special service. After the war returning to Georgia and his family he engaged in honorable pursuits for himself and family and was always successful. Mr. Alexander was 74 years old and owing to his age his health had been giving way for some time though the end was not so soon expected. He returned a few months ago from a visit to his son in Florida and was considered to be in better health just before he died than when he first returned. His wife preceded him to the grave about one year ago and since that time he has made his home with his children, some in this state and one in Florida. Mr. Alexander was a member of the Methodist church and was always faithful in observing its ordinances and attending services when health permitted. He is survived by five children, three sons and two daughters; these are: W.B, J.B. and L.B. Alexander, Mrs. A.I. Parks and Mrs. Z.L. Wilson. The interment of Mr. Alexander’s remains took place at New Hope cemetery near Reynolds Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J.T. Adams performing the burial service.
