She was just 30 years old, but consecrated her life to the will of the Lord many years ago, and her service in religious work has ever been regarded with great value. No task was too great for her and she always rejoiced in doing service for her Master. Jency Mollie Barfield, the subject of this sketch, was reared an orphan by Mrs. Matilda Grimes and was married to Mr. John M. Bateman in 1898. To them were born five children, four of whom are now living their ages ranging from 3 to 12 years. She was devoted to her foster mother, husband and children and was always engaged in making the home attractive and happy for them. She was a member of the Methodist church at Union and a regular attendant at all its services. Mrs. Bateman was seized with a severe attack of acute indigestion about two weeks ago followed by other complications which terminated in her death. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethel church Sunday morning, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. A.B. Peed who was her life-long friend. The Butler Herald Tuesday, September 12, 1911 Page Three Card of Thanks Words cannot express our appreciation to the friends, and our physician, Dr. Edwards, who so kindly assisted us in life’s greatest trial. No sweeter memory can live in any heart than the memory of their untiring devotion and services to the one who has just left us. To all of these we extend out most sincere thanks. John Bateman and family The Butler Herald Tuesday, September 26, 1911 Page Two Obituary On the morning of Sept. 2nd 1911 the beautiful spirit of Mrs. Jincie Bateman took its flight to the paradise of God. She was sick only a few days and everything that kind friends could do was done to relieve her suffering but God had touched the brittle thread of life and summoned her to His glorious kingdom where parting and pain are never known. Before her marriage she was Miss Jincie Mollie Barfield. She was born April 12th 1882. Her parents having died when she was quite young, she was raised by Mrs. Matilda Grimes. On April 17, 1898, she was married to Mr. J.M. Bateman. To them were born five children, one of which died leaving four little ones to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. Having joined the church in early childhood she lived a pure Christian life always attending church and Sabbath School, taking part therein and endeavoring to uplift her community and home. To her husband and children she was all that a wife and mother could be. In her suffering she was patient and full of God. We feel that her heart had already been tuned to sing His praise. She felt Christ very near and doubt fears removed. Her place left vacant, many heart are left sad; brothers and sisters we extend our sympathy. We can all meet again bye and bye. A.B.F.
