Anthony, one of the best known and one of the best men of the county, quietly passed away at his home last Tuesday evening in the 75th year of his age. The life of this good man was marked with many events, some of which were inspired by a true sense of patriotism, some in the sunlight of peace and happiness, and some under the dark shadow of sorrow. Mr. Anthony was born April 27, 1836, and of Christian parentage. He enlisted in the 3rd Georgia Calvary in May 1862, and bore his part well in the deathly conflict until April 1865, when at Charlotte, N.C., he was honorably discharged. Mr. Anthony had the misfortune to have lost two good wives, and for a number of years he lived happily with the third wife of his choice, who still survives him. By these marriages seven children were born unto him and who are emulating the example of their consecrated father. The life of Mr. Anthony was such that those who came in contact with him could not help being impressed with the Christian spirit which possessed him. He was a Christian in the fullest sense of the word. He lived day by day, in his home, his farm, no matter where; he was the same good man. He leaves two brothers and one sister besides his children and a host of friends to mourn the death of this good man. His remains were interred in the cemetery at Union Church, where for many years he held his church membership, the funeral services conducted by Revs. Earl Anderson and M.T. Gaultney. Additional Comments: Mr. Anthony's name is included in the listing for the Hays Campground Church Cemetery (Union Methodist) on the Taylor County page.
