The negro’s mind had become deranged over his stepdaughter trying to run away and marry for which he tried to kill her and then went into his house and fired the shot which killed him instantly and set his clothes and bed on fire. The girl escaped with two or three wounds and will recover. Suicide in the colored race is rarely ever known. This is the first in the history of this section.
