Mr. Barfield had for a number of years been prominently connected with the Masonic Lodge and was a faithful Pythian, and was not only loved and appreciated by these orders, but by a host of friends who knew him only to love him. And this was evidenced by the following large delegation of Masons, Pythians and friends who accompanied his remains to Butler. Upon the arrival of the remains in Butler, they were at once carried to the residence of Rev. J.T. Adams, W.M., of Fickling Lodge, where they were watched over by his Talbotton friends until carried to the cemetery by the Masonic fraternity. Mrs. P.B. Barfield, wife of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. T.N. Bazemore, Mr. and Mrs. John Slade, Mr. and Mrs. H. Herring married daughters, Miss Willie Mae, single daughter, Mr. J. Floyd Barfield, son, Messrs. Luther Slade, James Graham, H.C. Downs, Benson Maxwell, J.A. Battle, E.L. Bardwell, Jr., H.M. and A.A. Adams, C.K. Mahone, W.K. Couch, Misses H.O. McDaniel, H.P. Western, Eleanor Adams, Lizzie Sparks and Miss Armstrong. The good people of Butler did all that they could to make the stay of these friends while in Butler on their sad mission, as pleasant as possible.
