Peterman Succumbs to Paralysis After an illness of only ten days Mr. Dock Peterman, as he was familiarly known by his friends, quietly breathed his last at 12 o’clock on Tuesday last his spirit winged its flight heavenward. There was a daily beauty about the life of Mr. Peterman that won every heart. In temperment he was mild, conciliatory and candid; and yet remarkable for an uncompromising firmness. He gained confidence when he seemed least to seek it. The interment of the body was made in the Midway cemetery Wednesday, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. M.T. Gaultney, which was followed on Sunday last by a sermon dedicated to his memory by Rev. Mr. Gaultney at Midway church of which he was for forty years a member. Mr. Peterman was about 70 years old and is survived by a devoted wife and ten children, besides number of relatives and hundreds of intimate friends. The Butler Herald Tuesday, June 4, 1912 Page Two Nelson’s Mill It was quite a shock to learn of Mr. Dock Peterman’s death, which occurred last Thursday. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. The Butler Herald Tuesday, July 16, 1912 Page One Resolutions Brother W.F. Peterman, the subject of this preamble and resolutions, was born in Oglethorpe County Nov. 5, 1843 and with his father moved to Taylor County while a boy. He enlisted in the Confederate service in the early part of the deathly struggle, receiving honorable discharge, came home and married Miss Margie Savannah Suddeth in 1866. In 1881 he was happily converted, was baptized by Rev. Tom Bell into the Midway Baptist Church. He at once became an active Christian worker in the cause of his Master’s kingdom, devoting his time, his money and the influence of a godly life to the advancement of Christ’s militant church. And while Brother Peterman had his faults, which are incidental to humanity, his virtues and strong Christian character shone with such resplendent beauty as a father, husband, neighbor and member of Christ’s church, that these will live to bear fruit when the faults and foibles he may have had will lie forgotten. Resolved 1st: That while we bow with reverent heads and submissive spirits to the will of our Heavenly Father in the departure of Brother Peterman, we thank Him and praise His name for the long life and Christian character of our deceased brother, for “Though dead, he yet speaketh.” 2nd: That we tender to the bereaved family and to the church, the life work, the zeal and loyalty of Brother Peterman as a Christian, as an example worthy of emulation and Jesus Christ as the great solace in this hour of sorrow. 3rd: That a copy of this preamble and resolutions be furnished the family of our deceased brother. Also a copy furnished the Butler Herald with request to publish. And that the same be incorporated in the minutes of the church conference. Done in conference of Midway Baptist Church, this 5th day of July, 1912. M.T. Gaultney, Moderator By the Committee on Memoirs T.A.
