Gostin Died Tuesday Last At Macon Former Taylor County Citizen and One of the State’s Most Prominent Men The death of Dr. George P. Gostin, which occurred at his home at Macon last Tuesday, is sincerely regretted by his hundreds of friends in this and adjoining counties. Dr. Gostin lived in this county for many years, loved and respected by all who knew him. The following account of his death is taken from the Macon Telegraph of Wednesday last: Dr. G.R. Gostin, the oldest practicing physician in Macon, and one of the best known and most highly esteemed practitioners in the state, died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at his residence, 909 Orange Street following an illness of three weeks. He was stricken with paralysis three weeks ago while making a call and was carried to his home in an ambulance. Every effort known to the profession was used to save him but to no purpose. He was 60 years of age and had been practicing his profession in Macon for twenty years. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the family residence. Dr. W.N. Ainsworth and Dr. E.C. Dargan, officiating. Dr. Gostin was a faithful member of the Mulberry Street Methodist church throughout his life in Macon. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The following will act as pall bearers: Messrs. W.H. Mansfield, Mallary H. Taylor, Glenn C. Toole, W.O. Stevens, W.R. Rogers and Dewitt McCrary. Dr. Gostin came to Macon twenty years ago from Reynolds, where he began the practice of his profession in 1878, thirty-four years ago. His time was given between Oglethorpe and Reynolds and at Reynolds his only surviving brother now resides, W.T. Gostin. Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, Dr. B.S. Gostin and E.L. Gostin, of Macon and one daughter, Miss Maurine Gostin, also of this city. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. L.W. Foy, of Butler. He married Miss Rosa Jessup of Macon County while a young man and throughout his life and had been devoted to the interests of his family as well as his hosts of friends and those in distress, whom he ministered to from time to time without charge.
