In each instance the deceased was a child about the same age. The first of these was little Madelle Montgomery, the sweet and attractive little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Montgomery of the Crowells neighborhood. She was the only child of her parents and was one of the brightest pupils at Glover’s school. Little Madelle was buried at Crowells church, the services being conducted by Rev. J.H. Stanford. The very next day Rev. V.P. Scoville, in the absence of their pastors, was called out to Glover’s Schoolhouse cemetery to lay away with appropriate rites little Felton Byrd, the seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Byrd. This, too, was an only child and likewise one of the most promising pupils in the Glover’s school. The third was Louise Simmons, seven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Simmons. We understand that this precious little one was laid to rest at, or near, Bethlehem Church. To the bereaved parents in each instance we extend our heartfelt sympathy, in this their hour of deep sorrow. The Butler Herald Tuesday, March 11, 1913 Page Five In Memory of Little Louise Simmons On Saturday February 22nd, dear little Louise was taken ill with pneumonia, Dr. Turk, one of Reynolds’ best physicians was sent for and all that was done that could be, but it seemed that she grew worse each day. On Tuesday, Feb. 25th her much grieved father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Simmons, accompanied by Dr. Turk, Mrs. J.H. Simmons and Mr. W.R. Whatley, took the little one to Macon hospital where she could have the best attention. Her parents stayed with her ‘till the last and all that could be done seemed in vain. On Friday the 28th the death angel came and took her to a brighter world above where she is now sweetly resting in the arms of Jesus. Dear parents try to be reconciled and do not weep for your know that Jesus loved her too and saw it was best to take her from this sinful world to that beautiful City above where she is now watching and waiting for thee. Louise was seven years old and the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simmons; she leaves one little brother, father, mother and other loved ones to mourn for her; but ‘tis so sweet to know that our loss is Heaven’s gain. The funeral party came from Macon Saturday morning and the hearse was ready to carry the remains to its home and in the afternoon to Bethlehem cemetery where a large crowd was waiting to pay the last tribute of love. About four o’clock she was sweetly laid to rest, services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Emerson. The father and mother of little Louise have the sympathy of all their friends in this sad hour. Now let us all strive to meet her in that beautiful City where she is standing at the Golden Gate with those dear little hands beckoning come. There parting is no more. Beautiful hands at the gateway tonight, Faces all shining with radiant delight Eyes looking down from the Heavenly home, Beautiful hands they are beckoning us to come. Aunt Henrietta Additional Comments: Note: Louise was buried at the Bethlehem Church cemetery. The information from her gravestone is below.
