Watson on the early train Friday morning and was buried at the Hays cemetery near Pine Level Church Friday afternoon. He was one of the seventeen boys included in the last call from this county that went to Camp Gordon the 19th of December. The Butler Herald Thursday, January 17, 1918 Page Five Claud D. Watson Citizens of this county were again shocked last week to hear of the death of another young man, Mr. Claud D. Watson, who had sacrificed all in answer to the call of his country. Mr. Watson’s death occurred at the base hospital at Camp Gordon last Thursday the result of pneumonia. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Watson of Mauk, and was 28 years of age. (The rest of the article is to blurred to be transribed. The date of death is listed as January 17th, but I believe this is an error since this is the issue date of the newspaper.) Additional Comments: Note: Claud Watson was the son of Henry Thomas Watson and Elizabeth Bradshaw. His paternal grandparents were Perry C. Watson and Martha Hart. My gggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Watson, was a sister of Claud's father. I would like to correspond with anyone researching this family.
