The Butler Herald Tuesday, May 19, 1891 Page Three In Memoriam Mrs. Amanda Smith, wife of Mr. Henry Smith, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lovie, died at her home in this county on Saturday May 2nd 1891 of rheumatism, in the 20th year of her age. Mrs. Smith had only been sick a short while, but despite the earnest efforts of a good physician and loving friends, she calmly passed into that rest that awaits the finally faithful. She was born Oct. 4th, 1871 and died May 2nd, 1891. Mrs. Smith was not a member of any church, but it is said of her that she was an idol of her parents for her love and obedience to them – a true friend, an affectionate wife and tender mother. She leaves a husband, father, mother and many friends to mourn their loss, but the saddest of all is left one little daughter, who on account of tender age, will never know a mother’s love. But too pure for earth she is free from the toils and conflicts of life. She will be sadly missed in her home and among her friends, but He that doeth all things well will supply a balm to the aching hearts, in that she was faithful to the end. Mrs. Smith was loved by all who knew her. Her remains were interred in the cemetery at Bethel church on Monday morning, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Z.T. Bone.
