(better known as Uncle Johnnie Chapman) died at his home in this county on Saturday the 11th inst., at 3 o’clock p.m., after a brief illness of only a few days from typhoid dysentery. Mr. Chapman was in the 79th year of his age and was one of the best farmers as well as one of the best citizens of Taylor County. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and tried to live in obedience with the teachings of the Bible. He was a man of energy and perseverance and by close economy was in comfortable circumstance. By his pleasant disposition and honest dealing he had not an enemy that we know of. He leaves a devoted companion, six children and many friends to mourn their loss. His remains were interred in the cemetery at Bethlehem church on Sunday evening at 3 o’clock, Elder Bennett Stewart conducting the funeral services. A very large attendance was present at the service.
