Montfort, wife and companion of Mr. Richard Montfort, which sad event occurred at her home in Butler at eleven o’clock. Mrs. Montfort had been in feeble health for the past twelve months, but declined more rapidly for the past three weeks, and when called by the angels to a brigher, more peaceful and happier world that this they found her ready – only waiting for the summons of her Master to come up higher. Her death was peaceful and happy and though sad was no surprise to her family and friends. She was perfectly rational almost to the moment of her death and appeared as though the grave had won no victory. Mrs. Montfort was in the 61st year of her age, joined the Methodist church early in life and lived a devoted member of the same. As a wife, a mother, a neighbor and a friend she could not have been excelled and in her death our community and those whom she loved most dearly have suffered an irreparable loss. She was married to Mr. R. Montfort in March 1841; to them were born ten children, three of whom have preceded her to a home beyond the skies; seven of still survive, whom we trust will emulate the virtues of a devoted mother. The funeral exercises were conducted at her late residence on Thursday by Rev. M.A. Phillips assisted by Rev. J.T. Adams and her peaceful form laid to rest in the cemetery near the Baptist church. To the bereaved loved ones the sympathy of the entire community is extended.
