Rogers Mr. J.E. Rogers, one of the pioneer citizens of Taylor County a man well known and esteemed throughout this section died at his home on Tuesday morning 19th of Feb., eh was about 60 years; funeral services and interment were held at Hayes cemetery Rev. Lumpkin conducting the service. Mr. Rogers was an honored and industrious farmer and as a neighbor no one ever had any better, he was always happy with his family and the friends who often visited him. Mr. Rogers was sick only one week and one day. The Dr. has dismissed him on Tuesday the 8th but was taken worse. Drs. Morris from Tazewell and Carson from Talbotton were the doctors who waited on him. His wife preceded him to the grave the 2nd day of June 1912, also one daughter Prudie and one son Floy has gone before. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. V.D. Hobbs, of Columbus, Mrs. P.S. Pike of Mauk; five sons. May God help the loved ones to become reconciled over the death of their father. Rogers was born in 1855 and married Victoria Ruhanna Layfield on July 31,1879 in Taylor County, Ga. The names of the five sons not mentioned in the obituary are: Burel, Eli, Jessie Toliver, Perry Seborn and Robert Lee Rogers. Jessie married a sister of my great-great grandfather, James Monroe Layfield and I would like to correspond with anyone researching the Rogers family.
