Smith, age 47, formerly of Taylor county died at Ft. Valley, January 14, after and illness of several days from paralysis. Funeral services were held at Ft. Valley and his remains were brought here to Howard for internment at Horeb Baptist Church. Mr. Smith had lived in this county practically all of his life and by his honesty and fair dealings with his fellow-man, won for himself some very close friends. In fact, we have never heard him spoken of except in the very best of terms. He had met adversities financially, and irreparable loss in the death of his wife, but amidst it all, he never faltered, neither did his faith in the mercy of God ever waiver. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and as such was a true and loyal member. Mr. Smith moved from Taylor county to Fort Valley about the middle of December last, wo, by his deportment over there, soon won the confidence of the beautiful city's citizenry, who recognizing the needs of Mr. Smith and his family during the time of his illness, readily and liberally responded, and following his death fully provided for all funeral and burial expenses. Mr. Smith is survived by six daughters and one son, and all the good people of Fort Valley say that these orphan children will be provided for. Evidently Christ still lives and the heart of Christianity is still pulsating with warnth and love.
