Vol. 73 Nov.11,1948 FUNERAL SUNDAY, OCT. 31 FOR MRS. MATTIE SMITH. Mrs. Mattie Smith died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Windham in Columbus. Mrs. Smith had been in declining health for several years and her condition grew worse a week ago. Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 22, 1870 and had been a life resident of this community until a few years ago when she went to make her home with her children in Columbus. She was charter member of the Taylor Mill Baptist church and took a very active part in church work as long as she lived in the community. Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Smith Sunday afternoon, Oct. 31, at Mt. Olive Free-will Baptist Church, with Rev. Jno. M. Cox of Butler, officiated. J. W. Windham, L. L. Windham, Alfred Roberson, Polly Childree and Betty Anne Underwood, accompanied by Mrs. J. W. Windham sang "Shall We Gather at the River." "The Old Rugged Cross." "Does Jesus Care" and "God Will Take Care of You." Pall bearers were: Billy Windham, Dan Windham, Earl Hightower, and Leon Smith. Mrs. Smith is survived by six children, Clay Smith, Terrell Smith and Mrs. Jim Windham all of Taylor Mill; Mrs. J. D. Windham and Lee Smith of Columbus; and Mrs. Ethel Grant of Manchester; two brothers, Roy Vann of Butler and Obe Vann, of Plant City Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
