Negro Woman Fatally Burned Tuesday Afternoon

While assisting her father, Simon Tomlin, in burning off a piece of new ground,
Ida Tomlin, colored, about 25 years of age, was fatally burned when her clothing
caught fire from the burning brush heap. Her screams brought to her assistance
her father, who was himself badly burned in his attempt to extinguish the blaze.

The unfortunate accident occurred late Tuesday afternoon, and after only a few
hours of great suffering, the woman died about nine o’clock.
