He was the son of the late Mr. J. B. Watson and Mrs. Mattie Weeks Watson. The date of his birth is given as Sept. 20, 1872. Mr. Watson’s death at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. G. Wall at Mauk, followed several months of confinement to his room and bed during which time he had the best of care from loved ones together with interest and frequent visits of neighbors and friends. In his more active days Mr. Watson was considered a leading farmer and civic leader in the western section of this county. Funeral services and interment occurred Sunday afternoon, 3 o’clock, at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, the services being conducted by Rev. C. W. Hancock pastor Butler Methodist church and Rev. Ethridge Welch, of Thomaston. The pallbearers included three sons and three sons-in-law of the deceased towit: Messrs. George Lewis and Perry Watson, U. G. Wall, Cecil Gill and Gardner Pye. Mr. Watson was married in 1898 to Miss Lessie Purvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Purvis, she having died Nov. 16, 1937. They reared to manhood and womanhood three noble sons and five most excellent daughters towit: Messrs. George, Lewis and Perry Watson; Mrs. H. G. Pye and Mrs. Z. T. Locke of Butler; Mrs. U. G. Wall and Mrs. Dave Harbuck of Mauk; Mrs. Cecil Gill of Warner Robins; and one sister, Mrs. R. M. Jinks of Reynolds; he is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
