Mr. Windham was born in South Carolina, but in early life he moved to Taylor County and settled in Panhandle district, where he met with much success as a farmer. He afterwards disposed of his interest in Panhandle and purchased a farm two miles southeast of Butler and built what is known as Windham's mill, one of the best little merchant mills in the county. A few years ago Mr. Windham disposed of this property and purchased the farm of Mr. M.T. Chapman where he lived comfortably up to the time of his recent illness. For thirty years Mr. Windham had been a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist church and led a quiet, Christian life. As a husband, father and neighbor he was kind, affectionate and obliging, and those who knew him best loved him most. He followed the golden rule as far as he was able in paying his honest debts and doing unto others as he would have them do unto him. Mr Windham was in the 84th year of his age and leaves a devoted companion, eight children, five sons and three daughters, besides a host of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. His sons are Messrs. J.J., C.A., J.R., G.R., and E.R. Windham. His daughters are Mrs. W.L. Caldwell, Mrs. John H Childers and Miss Mattie Windham, all of whom have the sympathy of their many friends. The remains of Mr. Windham were laid to rest in the cemetery at Bethel church on Monday afternoon, the funeral services being conducted by Elder Young, of Houston county.
