It was constituted in November, 1837 (1847 in another place in the Minutes) "of The United Freewill Baptist Church of Christ at NEW PROSPECT Crawford County Georgia." A cemetery is near by, and is also known as "Possum Trot". This story from Lisa's grandfather, explains how it got its name. (Zol Nelson)He told me once that it got its nickname "Possum Trot" because it seemed everytime Papa Zol went over there, he had to stop & wait for either a possum, or a herd of mama & baby possums to cross the road & get out of his way before he could go on. I don't know if you've ever seen a possum walk, but they sort of waddle & when they're scared they tend to waddle-trot, trying to hurry; thus, the nickname "Possum Trot." For some reason it stuck & most of the older folks in that area know it as Possum Trot.
