"Hamp" Hill's date of birth is hotly contested.  I have personally seen 5 five 
differnt dates, each having about the same weight in supporting documentation. 
I personally believe that even he didn't know his own birthdate.  My personal 
favorite birth date is Dec. 13, 1842.  It is the date he gave on his army 
enlistment and service record and it appears on his affidavit for pension 
years later.
