The Military Age would probably be 18 - 33. The Act of 1852 Tax Laws established the "Ad Valorem" system still used today. The property was appraised and set a rate of taxation. In 1860, the rate was 1/12 of 1%. Exempt were: all plantation and mechanical tools, furniture under $300, all libraries, all poultry, $200 exemption of "other property", all annual crops, all firearms and all clothing.
