Herring, of Montezuma announce the engagement of their daughter, Gladys Mae, to Mr. Elbert Theodore Shealy, of Butler, the marriage to take place September 24, 1919. No cards. Mr. Shealy is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Shealy, of near Butler, and is one of the most excellent young men of this section. He is general manager of the mercantile business of Mr. F.C. Jarrell, and is conducting same with eminent satisfaction. He is a gentleman possessing wealth of refinement, of moral, social and religious character. The bride-elect is a native of Montezuma, Ga., and is a member of one of Macon County’s highly honored families, and is one of the most noble young women of this section of the state. For some time she taught school at Union, assisting Miss Ella Foy, and is generously loved by the people of that section. It will be gratifying indeed to all her friends to know that she is remain here permanently as Mrs. Shealy. The Butler Herald Thursday, October 2, 1919 Page Seven Herring – Shealy Miss Gladys Herring and Mr. Theodore Shealy were quietly married Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist church, Rev. L.A. Harrell, of Butler, performing the ceremony. They left immediately after their marriage for Florida. On their return they will begin housekeeping at the home of the groom in Butler. Holt and C.M. Harrison were hostesses at a luncheon at the home of the latter on Wednesday at noon for Miss Gladys Herring, a bride elect. All the appointments of the luncheon table were in green and white. The members of the class which graduated with the bride-to-be and Mrs. George McLendon assisted in dispensing the hospitalities of the occasion. Among the invited guests were E.W. and Roy Shealy, Herman Amos, H.P. Wallace, Rev. L.A.
