Miss Eme Slappy treated her friends and relatives to a genuine surprise 
Saturday when she was joined in wedlock to Mr. J.R. Pardee at the home of Mr. 
and Mrs. R.W. Boggs at Prattsburg where she was visiting at the time.  Even her 
own family knew nothing of her intention until informed by friends Saturday 
morning.  There was no objection to the match, but it was simply the wishes of 
the couple to keep the matter a secret as long as possible and have the 
marriage performed quietly.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Bennie Slappy of Butler, and is one of our 
most accomplished and refined young ladies.

Mr. Pardee is the popular young depot agent for the A.C.L. Railroad at Carters, 
Fla.  He came to Butler for his first visit on the midnight train Friday, 
secured his license at that hour of the night after inducing the aid of newly 
found friends, spent the remaining hours until the daylight train upon which he 
returned to Talbot County, sought a minister and soon the nuptial knot was tied.

The couple had known each other for many years.  The acquaintance and 
friendship was formed in Florida where Miss Slappy has often visited.  After 
the ceremony they left at once for the groom’s home in Florida.

**Note - the first name of the bride is spelled exactly the way it appears in 
the newspaper.  I'm not a researcher of this family and don't know the name for 
this individual.  Please contact me if you know the bride's full name and I'll 
have it corrected.
