TAYLOR COUNTY Will of John Forshee-1865 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Carla Miles milescng@juno.com JOHN FORSHEE I, John Forshee, of the County of Taylor and State of Georgia, being of sound mind and disposing mind and memory and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, while I have strength so to do, do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all Wills at any time heretofore made. First, I commit my Soul to God who gave it and my body I desire to be buried in the family burial ground in my former plantation and my worldly estate I dispose as follows - First, I desire all my just debts to be paid. Second, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Sarah Forshee an equal interest in the proceeds of the sale of my land with my other lawful heirs, by which she relinquishes all claim to the right of her Dower in said land. I furthermore give to my wife, Sarah Forshee, her two choice Beds, Bed-steads and a sufficient amount of clothing to furnish the same. Also, three hundred pounds of pork. Twenty five bushels of corn, four choice goats, one black head cow, and her yearling. One clock, a sufficient amount of kitchen furniture such as she may choose. One table, a sufficient amount of table furniture. One and a half bushels of salt, food for her cattle during the present fall and winter. Ten gallons of ribbon saw syrup, four sitting chairs such as she may choose. One spinning wheel, the new one. One pair cotton cards. One trunk, a debt on W.A. H. Royal to the amount of sixty five dollars. Three bushels of wheat, two bushels of pota! toes, three sides of leather, one dozen fowls, twelve pounds of cotton lin(?), one club ax and one hand hatchet. I desire that all the remainder of corn, fodder, wheat, syrup, potatoes and beef be equally divided between my lawful heirs exclusively without being exposed to sale all the remainder of my perishable property belonging to my Estate (not before mentioned) be exposed to sale and the proceeds of the sale be equally divided between all my lawful heirs except my wife, Sarah Forshee. I desire that my land be sold at a proper time and the proceeds of the sale equally divided between all my lawful heirs. I desire that my beloved son-in-law Smith Turner act as my Executor to this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said John Forshee to this my Last Will consisting of the foregoing two pages have set my hand and seal, this 20th day of Oct. A.D. 1865. Murray State of Georgia Taylor County Know all men by these present that I, Sarah Forshee, wife of John Forshee without fear or compulsion and of my own due volition have this day relinquished my claim to Dower to all lands now in possession of my husband John Forshee and I am satisfied with an equal distribution of the proceeds of the sale of said land mentioned in the Last Will and Testament of my said husband and do sign this relinquishment in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
