I, Martin D. Chapman, of said State and County, being of advanced age, and knowing the uncertainty of life, but being of sound mind and ______, deem it right and proper both as respect, my family and myself, that I shall make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me. I therefore make this my last will and testament, hereby evoking and annulling all others by me heretofore made, 1st I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and christian like manner suitable to my circumstances in life; and that a suitable monument be erected over the grave of my former wife, (Mary Ann Chapman)myself. The cost not to exceed $100.00. 2nd I desire and direct that all my Just debts be paid without unnecessary delay and without causing a needless Sacrifice of my estate by my executors hereinafter named and appointed. 3rd I give, bequeath and devise to my wife Callie Chapman all of the house hold and kitchen furniture, which I may possess at the time of my demise. Also one double barrel shot gun, one plow stack, one plow ____, plow____, 2 weeding hoes, three hogs of her own selection, all of the fowls, and also one year's support in provisions or $100.00 in money as She may elect. Also my watch and chain, and watch charm. 4th I also mention here in this my last will and testament, that there may be no mistake, or misunderstanding. That the dwelling house in which I now live, including Five Town lots connected therewith, and forming Said premisies on which said dwelling is located was purchased by my wife, Callie Chapman, with money, which was her own, and in her own right at the time of my marriage with said wife. Also the clock was likewise purchased. And that Said premises and clock belong to said Callie Chapman of her own right, and not by gift or demise. 5th I desire, and direct, that all my property, (not heretofore bequeathed as mentioned in this my last will and testament,),be sold by my Exrs (hereinafter named and appointed) as soon after my death as practically from the proceeds of such Sales; I desire and direct that all my Just debts be paid. 6th I will and direct that after my Just debts have been paid, that the balance of money so left from the sale and disposition of my entire property, (not heretofore bequeathed), Shall be equally divided between all my heirs Share and Share alike. To Wit; my wife, Callie Chapman, and my four Sons; Vis; M. T. Chapman, A. D. Chapman, V. B. Chapman and D. F. Chapman. 7th I hereby constitute and appoint my Sons M. T. Chapman and A. D. Chapman born 26 Sep 1827, son of Abner and Ellen Chapman, and died 29 Jul 1910 married Mary Ann Meadows born 12 Jan 1832, daughter of Vincent T. and Martha A. King Meadows, and died 26 Aug 1898, about 1850 in either Troup or Marion County Georgia. They are both buried in Butler City (Butler Memorial) Cemetery in Butler, Taylor Co., GA. On the 1900 Taylor Co., GA census Callie Rogers is listed as housekeeper in Martin D. Chapman's household and on 24 Oct 1900 Martin D. Chapman and Callie Rogers were married in Taylor Co., GA.
