Will of James J. Ruffin 26 Dec 1899 Georgia - Taylor County Last will and testament of James J. Ruffin I, James J. Ruffin of said State and county being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament. Item 1. I desire and direct that as soon after my death as practicable all my just debts be paid. Item 2nd. I give to my wife, Caroline Ruffin, during her life or widowhood, and to revert back to my estate her marriage or death, the following described property to wit: part of lots of land number two hundred & ten (210) and two hundred and thirty (230) in the fourteenth (14) District of Taylor County Georgia, containing forty (40) acres more or less and bounded as follows to wit: on the south by land of Mrs. Georgia TRAPP, on the west by land of Mrs. Lula WHITTLE on North by land of Mrs. M.L. McDaniel and on the East by land of W.M. Musselwhite and known as Mrs. Mattie J. King's distributive share of the land known to be belong to her father, W.H. Ingram, late of Taylor County deceased, said above described land to be in lieu of dower and years support and when reverted back to my estate to be equally divided and distributed between my five heirs as hereinafter provided in item fourth of this instrument. Item 3rd. I give and bequeath to my grandson, Monroe Humphries five dollars. Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my five heirs herein after named an equal share in the remainder of my property, money, real estate and effects of every description, as following. One share to the children of my deceased daughter, Lucinda Salter. One share to my son, Henry J. Ruffin. One share to my daughter Margarett E. Layfield, one share to my daughter Sarah J. Parker, and one share to my son, George T. Ruffin and any one or more of the above mentioned heirs die before said distribution as above directed then the share or shares of such deceased to go to his her or their child or children. Item 5th. I desire and direct that all advances made either before or after this time shall be reckoned as a part of the distribution share of those to whom made, but no interest shall be charged on such advances. Item 6th. I hereby appoint my son, George T. Ruffin, Executor of this my last will and testament and hereby waive all appraisement and annual returns or sales of my unles it be necessary in order to make an equal division of said estate. Ruffin of said county and state being of sound and memory do make this codicil to my within recited will and last testament. Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my wife, Caroline Ruffin, all that tract or parcel of land lying & being in the town of Reynolds, Taylor County, Georgia known on the plat & original survey of said town as lots of land number ten (10), eleven (11), and twelve (12) in block number twelve (12). Said lots fronting east (53) fifty three feet each on Crawford Street and running back west each 150 one hundred & fifty feet to ally. Together with dwelling and all other buildings and improvements situated on any part of said above described land. This land as above described in Item one of this codicil shall be in lieu of the land described Item 2 of the within will which was bequeathed to my wife, Caroline Ruffin her lifetime, also in lieu of dower and years support out of my estate. Item 2nd. I hereby make this codicil to my last will and testament as above & within described to be executed according to the provisions of the above & within will. This Sept 11, 1901. James J. Ruffin, of said county and state being of sound mind and memory do make this my second codicil to my within last recited will and testament. Item 1st. I hereby desire to change so much of codicil number one of my last will hereby revoking so much of the clause giving and bequeathing the property mentioned in said codicil to my wife, Caroline Ruffin, by giving and bequeathing said described property in said Codicil number one to my wife, Caroline Ruffin, during her life or widowhood and at the expiration of her life or widowhood then said property shall revert back to my heirs and be divided equally share and share a like between my heirs except my grandson, Monroe Humprhies, who shall inherit as above mentioned in item three of my original will. This October 18th 1901. James J. Ruffin Signed declared and published by James J. Ruffin as a second codicil of his last will and testament hereto attached in the presence of us the subscribers who subscribed our names hereto in the presence of said testator at his instance and request and of each other, he signing in our presence and we signing in his presence. Ruffin who being duly sworn deposes and says that he with H.T. Travoick did on the 26th day of December 1899, attest as witnesses the within writing in the presence of J.J. Ruffin who in their presence and in the presence of each other voluntarily signed & published the same as his last will; and that the said J.J. Ruffin was at the time of said attestation and signing of sound and disposing mind and memory. W.T. Gostin Sworn to and subscribed to before me: This the 27th of Feb 1905 W.B. Wilson, Ordinary. Before me personally appeared WM Musselwhite named as a witness to the within writings purporting to be the last will of J.J. Ruffin who being duly sworn deposes and says that he with H.T. Coleman, deceased and A.J. Payne did on the 11th day of Sept 1901, attest as witnesses the within codicil in the presence of each other voluntarily signed and published the same as a codicil to his last will and testament and that the said J.J. Ruffin was at the time of said attestation and signing of sound and disposing mind and memory. W.M. Musselwhite Sworn to and subscribed to before me: This the 27th of Feb 1905 W.B. Wilson, Ordinary. I do solemnly swear that this writing contains the last will of the within named J.J.
