It was about dark Thursday night when he reached the Turkey Creek bridge. without the slightest warning, three men jumped into the road in front od the horse and ordered Thornburg to throw up his hands. Instead of doing so, he turned the horse's head and wheeled around in the road. Putting lash to the animal, he drove at full speed to Grimsley, the last post office he had passed, about a mile distant. Tow days before young Thornburg's experience a negro man was held up by two negro men and compelled to hand over all the money he had in his pockets, ,60 cents. A negro preacher is also said to have been robbed there two weeks ago. There is not the slightest clue to the men.
