                 THE SOLDIER THAT SHOT GENERAL KEARNEY
                          5 NOVEMBER 1887

John McCrimmon, a private in the Forty-ninth Georgia regiment of
Confederate troops died a few days ago at his home in Telfair county. Private
McCrimmon , was the soldier who fired upon and killed Gen. Kearney, of the
Federal Army while that officer was riding into the Confederate lines through
mistake one night in Virginia.
