DODGE COUNTY NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS Volume I., 1873-1892 By: Tad Evans Date: See Page 194 Thursday, January 3, 1884 Obituary: See Page 195 SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. MALOY. Mr. Daniel Maloy, an aged and highly esteemed citizen of Telfair County, died at his home on Sunday night, December 23rd, 1883. The particulars of his sad and sudden death, as we have been reliably informed, are as follows: Just as Mr. Maloy had undressed to retire for the night, he discovered a house on fire, which he supposed was his mill house. He called his two sons, and they hastened in the direction of the fire, which he and in the darkness they all stumbled, Mr. Maloy falling to his knees. They recovered from this, however, and went a short distance, when Mr. M. made some complaint, and soon told his sons that he could go no further.-- The party then retraced their steps, the sons assisting their father, who continued to grow weaker rapidly, until they reached a point within a few steps of the door, when he could go no further , and there expired. Scarely five minutes had elapsed from the time he made his first complaint till he breathed his last. Truly in the midst of life we are in death. Mr. Maloy was about 60 years of age, enjoying excellent health, and, as above stated, almost without a moments warning (attributable, it is supposed, to the rupture of some blood vessel) he was snatched from time into eternity. The deceased was a good and useful citizen, and his death is deplored by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, the daughter of Rev. James Williamson, and several children, to whom we join their many friends in extending heart-felt sympathy.
