Hon. John Wilcox, the late Representative of Telfair County, died at his home
near Temperance, in that county, on Thursday, December 16, 1880, in the
sixty-seventh year of his age.  During the recent session of the legislature Mr.
Wilcox, while in Atlanta, contracted pneumonia, but so far recovered as to be
able to return home, when a relapse occurred, and he died after a few days
illness.  Mr. Wilcox was elected to the legislature at the first election after
the constitutional convention and was re-elected in October last...

Obituary:  Died at his home in Telfair County, on the 16th day of December,
1880., Hon. John Wilcox, a member of the House of  Representatives of the State
of Georgia, of disease contracted in Atlanta, while at his post, attending to
his public duties. He was born in Pulaski County on the 12 of January, 1814, but
lived in Telfair for many years, honored and respected by all, and had been
three times elected to the General Assembly by the votes of confiding people. 
At the time of his death, he was a member of the Baptist Church, and had been
for twenty-five years,  He was an affectionate husband, a kind and devoted
father and brother, a true friend, and an upright and hospitable citizen, and a
faithful public servant ...W.W.P.
