F. West as the first Moderator. The following were the charter members of the church: John R. Jones, L. Thornton, Wm. Tucker, Wm. Watts, Willis Ingram, Colvin Folks, Edward Knighton, and S. G. Evans; and Mrs. M. Tucker, Mrs. S. C. Jones, Mrs. M. S. Watts, Mrs. E. W. Thornton, Mrs. E. W. Allen, Mrs. S. A. Daniel, Mrs. C. Tucker, Mrs. C. J. Maund, Mrs. M. A. Jarman, Mrs. M. E. Louis, Margaret Baily, Winnie Ingram, Mary C. Evans, Sarah Folks, Angie Knighton, Lula Marsh, Sallie Tucker, Mary Jarman and Drusilla Jones, colored. Rev. West was first pastor and served the church from July 1872 to February 1, 1873. The house of worship, which is the same building which serves as the church today, was built for $675.00 and was paid for in less than a year's time. From a study of the church records it seems as if strict discipline was enforced in Conferences and that the members of the church who broke the rules by dancing, liquor drinking and using profane language were severely dealt with. Dover Baptist Church joined the Bethel Association in 1872. The first messengers to the Association were J. R. Jones and J. Morrow. The following pastors have served the church from its organization: F. West from 1872 at its organization to February 1, 1873; J. C. Bass to 1879 making seven additions to the church by baptism; D. B. Jay in 1880, no baptisms; not represented in 1881 and 1882; John Martin to 1896, total number of baptisms 53; J. S. Knowles to 1900, baptisms 6; W. W. Mabry to 1905, 20 baptisms; J. W. Martin 1905 and 1906, with 8 additions by baptism; A. B. Hawkes to 1910, 14 baptisms; W. W. Mabry in 1910 with 6 baptisms; not represented in 1912; C. Thomas Greer in 1913, no baptisms; not represented in 1914 and 1915; J. F. Eden in 1916; H. J. Edwards in 1917; no baptisms for these two years; no report in 1918; F. M. Blalock in 1919 and 1920 with 4 baptisms; H. L. Crumbley to 1925, baptisms 28; J. C. Grimes in 1926 baptized 12; M. B. Brown to present date (1932) has added 2 members by baptism to the church during these five years. The Clerk who have served Dover Baptist Church are listed below: W. N. Watts, from 1872 to 1877; Wm. Tucker in 1877; E. N. McKerlhim, 1878; J. J. Bradley to 1889; E. B. Bridges in 1889; B. S. Mathis in 1891; S. F. Sullivan to 1897; W. P. Collier to 1900; W. S. Thornton to 1902; J. P. Mabry in 1902; J. L. Henry to 1905; W. J. Cannon to 1907; J. R. Heidt to 1909; W. J. Cannon to 1913; Jhon Woods to 1919; R. S. McNeil in 1919; T. L. Steadham to present date. The present membership of the church is 46.
