I am truly sorry your Father would not consent for the babe to come and stay awhile with me, but I have too much respect for him to complain. I would not write this but learning you might think I was treating you with contrite(?) I write, but cannot say I knew what too write, in your letter of the 28th of July, you ask me some questions that I have no right to answer, and which you only can answer for yourself. Most Respectfully J H Cannon 1870-May 6 (envelope addressed to Mrs. R.A. Cannon Bedford a. in care of James Lassater from J H Cannon) (From Jeptha to Rhoda) Respected madam your note of the 18th of April to Col. Hoyd was handed to me by him you said in that note you would write me. if I would to you. I wrote immediately, and as yet no answer thinking the letter might have been miscarried I write again. Please let me hear from you. Most Respectfully J H Cannon 1875-Mar 31 Dawson Georgia Mrs. Cannon, Yours of the 23rd Iwith it in hand, I also received the letter referred to as having been sent by hand and would have replied to it, but Jerry Lassiter after talking with Jet Lassiter said he would write to you suggesting that you come round to Dawson on a visit to Jet Lassaters who resides very near the depot, and that you and Mr. Cannon could then talk matters over. I so informed Mr. Cannon and he has been expecting you up for a week or so now. Mr. Lasiter afterwards told me that he had so written you. If this will not suit you, write a note at once and Mr. CXannon will go or send for you, I think without delay. Respectfully L G Hoyt Dawson Ga May 15, 1875 Mrs. R.A. Dear Brother I have been trying to locate you for a long time. Yesterday I met Mr. Jim Green who told me that he saw you two or three weeks ago. I believe if you knew how anxious I am to hear from you and to see you you would not only write to me but would come to see me. I hope you will write to me as soon as you reeeive this. Father had a large family of children (12 or 13 in all)(town off- (no) you and I are the only one living of course. I know from experience why you have not come to see any of us for we all have been too busy trying to make a living to visit much. But Jim, I am growing old and the older I get the more I crave to see you that we may know something of one another. And now I am going to make you a propositon as I have just got to see you and be with you some anyhow and it is this. If you will come I will pay expenses here and back. If you cant ome I am coming to see you any how if you dont object. I have not seen you since you was a baby just cutting teeth. I do hope to hear from you soon. Also hope to see you in the near future. So write at once to your Brother G R Cannon Additional Comments: Rhoda and J. H. Cannon had James Augustus Cannon 8 Jun 1867. Jeptha (J H) was from Dawson-son of Joshua T Cannon & Elizabeth Williamson Harris of SC, NC- to Greene Co Ga to Meri., to Fayette. Joshua died in Terrell, Ga. She was the daughter of James Lasseter and Maria Felton who later moved to Early Co., as well as Rhoda "Rody" and the baby. James Lasseter was the son of Isaac. Joshua Cannon was the son of John & Gemima Broughton Elizabeth Harris was the dtr. of Wilmont Egerton Harris & Coley Morris. Rhoda Lasseter Cannon apparently left Jeptha when the baby was an infant, and went home to her parents in Botsford. The letters continue between Dawson and Botsford and Early Co... Blakely, I believe. The story has passed down in the family, that Jeptha deserted his wife and her family had to raise the child. I think these letters definately show different. The father and his children- never saw the child again, as stated here. Rhoda died in Granger Co Tx in 1902. By 1908 her son was back in Early Co.and he married Early 1895 James Louvenia Willis child of James Dullane Willis and Rebecca Ann Chambers of Early Co. His wife's Grandparents were Joab Willis & Minerva Weathers, dtr of John Weathers and Mary A- and Berrian Chambers and Nancy Pickle of Early Co. children of Henry Chambers & Martha, Jacob Pickle and Sarah. Children of James Augustus Cannon were: Emory Augustus 1896 Vennie Jewel 1902 Dewey Dozier 1924 Ethel Willis ------------------------- Ms. Gerry Hill-Albany- Joshua Cannon & Eliz. Wms.
