The remains of Dr. T. H. Thurmond, of Columbus, a former resident of this city, were brought to Dawson Tuesday and laid to rest by the side of his first wife, the former Miss Emmie Jordan, of Terrell county. During his residence here Dr. Thurmond was active in religious circles, being a steward of the Methodist church, and his uprightness and fine principles of daily living contributed much to the betterment of the community. He practiced dentistry here until about twenty years ago, removing with his family to Columbus, where he enjoyed the love and high esteem of the citizens of that city. Funeral services were conducted at his home Monday afternoon by Rev. C. W. Curry, of the Rose Hill Methodist church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Florence Joiner Thurmond, a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Thurmond, of Columbus, one son, Harris Thurmond, of Columbus, and a step- daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Joiner, of the Philippine Islands. A short service was held at the grave when the cortege reached Dawson Tuesday, the pallbearers, old acquaintances of the deceased, being Mr. J. A. Holsey, Sr., Mr. Dudley Cocke, Mr. W. R. Baldwin, Mr. J. C. Hollingsworth, Col. R. R. Marlin and Judge M. C. Edwards.
