LAURENS CO., GA. Kindred Allison Partin the son of William Partin and Sarah C. “Sallie” her last name unknown to the family. Kindred’s father William Partin was born abt 1765 in Edgefield Co., S.C. and died abt 1844 in Monroe Co., Ala. We only know of Sarah C. “Sallie” because of court records “Sallie” died in 1841. Both were members of the Burntcorn Baptist Church in Monroe Co., Ala. The Partin/Partain and Forest/Forrest families were earlier settlers of Laurens Co., Ga. In the mid 1820's. Kindred Allison Partin was born abt 1800 in Edgefield Co., S.C. And died 20 April 1884 in Laurens Co., Ga. He married Henrietta “Retta” Forrest sometime before or about 1816-17 probably in Edgefield Co., S.C., although no actual records have been located. The marriage is based upon the birthdate of their eldest child Enoch Partin, who’s birthdate has been documented as being May 1818 in Edgefield Co., S.C. He died in 1900 in Thomas Co., Ga Heneritta “Retta” Forest/Forrest was born abt 1798 in Edgefield Co., S.C. And died 16 March 1877 in Laurens Co., Ga. She was the dau of Jesse Forest who was born abt 1762 in Bute/Warren Co., N.C. and died in Laurens Co., Ga. in 1824 and Sally (?) of whom we know little about. Most members of these families had close ties to Laurens Hill Baptist Church in Laurens Co., Ga. Which was abandoned in the mid 1900's. Kindred and Henrietta had the following known children: 1. Enoch Partin/Partain was born May 1818 in Edgefield Co., S.C. And died in 1900 in Thomas Co., Ga. married first Mary Salter ( abt 1828 - before 1856 ) ( Ref: 1850 Census of Thomas Co., Ga. ) in Laurens Co., Ga. on 9 March 1848 the dau of Zadoc Salter and Nancy Gainer. No further records. Enoch Elizabeth Roddenberry about 1856 in Thomas Co., Ga. the dau of Richard Roddenberry ( Roddenbury Vol IX., page 387., Huxford). and Nancy Ann Davis. Enoch abandoned Elizabeth before she gave birth to Flavius “Gus” Roddenberry ( 1857 -1933 ). Thomas County Court Minute Book 1858., page 11., Suit for “Trespass for Seduction” Nancy Roddenberry vs Enoch Partin. Complaint was filed in 1857 and the case was settled in 1858. “Gus” was raised from infancy by died when “Gus” was six (6) months old. Elizabeth Roddenberry was born 13 January 1839 in Thomas Co., Ga. And died 27 December 1857 in Thomas County., Ga. She was buried in the Old Family Cemetery three miles southwest of Metcalf., Thomas Co., Ga. with in 100 yards of the State Line. See THE RODDENBERRY/RODDENBERY FAMILY BOOK Compiled by George Lee Thurston III., This book was published in 1979 and is out of print. Copies are in Thomas County Library and also at Roddenberry Memorial Library at Cairo., Georgia. Enoch and Elizabeth had only one child. Enoch married third Martha A. T “Toby” Clark on 10 December 1856 in Jefferson Co., Florida. She was the dau of Thomas Clark and Sarah (?). She was born 1837 in Jefferson Co., Fla. and died 1895 in Thomas Co., Ga. “Toby” and Enoch are buried at Fredonia Baptist Church Cemetery., Thomas Co., Ga. They had two (2) children. Enoch served in the Confederate States Army., Co. K., 28th Bn. Georgia Siege Artillery. Enlisting in 1862, he would later receive a Confederate Pension for his service to the Confederacy. 2. Pleasant P. “Plez” Partin was born in 1825 in Laurens Co., Ga and died 24 November 1887 in Hawkinsville Ga. and was buried in Orange Grove Cemetery now called Orange Hill Cemetery., Hawkinsville., Pulaski Co., Ga. ( per obit.) Pleasant married first Amelia Love the dau of John Love., Sr. And Betsy Hall of Laurens Co., Ga. Amelia was born abt 1818 and died 12 March 1872 (obit). “Plez” and Amelia are buried in the Partin Lot at Orange Hill Cemetery (obit), their graves are unmarked. They had four (4) known children. “Plez” married second Margaret Williams dau of Theophilus Williams on 29 March 1872 in Pulaski Co., Ga. She was born 29 March 1872 and died 30 June 1880 in Hawkinsville,Ga. There were no children from the last marriage. “Plez” was a member of the Confederate Home Guard for Pulaski County during the Civil War. 3. Sugar James Partin was born 2 March 1827 in Laurens County., Ga. and died 8 January 1905 in Danville., Twiggs Co., Ga Sugar married first Elizabeth Manning dau of Reuben Manning who died in Wilkinson Co., Ga in 1836. ( Ref: Ga. Journal ) his date of birth is unknown. Further Reuben Manning can be found in the 1820 Census of Washington Co., Ga. ( age 26/45) one female listed In the household (16/26) there were two males under ( age 10 ). This leads us to believe that the marriage in Laurens Co., Ga., of Reuben Manning to Elfa “Effie Curry on 30 January 1827 was in actuality his second marriage. Ref: Laurens Co., Marriages Bk “D” page 38. Elfa “Effie Curry was born about 1798 in N. C. And can be found in the Minutes of Cool Spring Baptist Church located in Twiggs Co., Ga. but at one time it was in Wilkinson Co., Ga. On 3 April 1841 she was received into church member- ship by Experence. In the last book I have her listed as being deceased. So she died as a member of the Cool Spring Primitive Baptist Church. I also found Effie Manning ( 82yrs old ) and her sister Mary Curry ( 80yrs old ) in the 1880 Census of Pulaski Co., Ga. and it further now states they were born in Scotland rather than N.C. as stated in early censuses. Elizabeth Manning was born abt 1832 probably in Wilkinson Co., Ga where her father had died in 1836. Early Court House Records were destroyed by Gen. Sherman’s Troops and a Court House fire got the rest that did survive the war. Elizabeth was Baptized Laurens Hill Baptist Church on 16 July 1855. Sugar was Baptized Laurens Hill Baptist Church on 21 September 1848. Elizabeth died before 1882. This is a fact because Sugar on 6 March 1882 in Pulaski Co., Ga married a Mrs. Caroline Permelia Vinson. Sugar and Elizabeth had seven (7) known children. Sugar was accidently killed when he was kicked by a mule; the blow landing full on the chest. Uttered the words “Ole Lord” with his dying breath and fell to the ground. He was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery., Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. Sugar Partin was a Confederate Veteran having served in Co. “A” 66th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry. Caroline received a Confederate Pension from the state of Florida. After the death of Sugar Partin, Caroline lived with a daughter in Hillsboro Co., Fla. She was still living In 1927. I have never been able to locate the grave site of Effie Manning or her sister Mary Curry. I did find Henry F. Manning ( 1829 -1913 ) at Mt Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery a son of Effie Manning but I’ve yet to locate Elizabeth (Manning) Partin the great-great grandmother of the compiler of this history of the family. 4. William Benson Partin was born 22 February 1835 in Laurens Co., Ga. and died 26 August 1901 in Pulaski Co., Ga. He was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery., Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. William served in the Confederate States Army in Co., “C”., 57th Georgia Infantry. He married Mary Ann Sauls 21 November 1860 in Twiggs Co., Ga. She was the dau of Mr. and Mrs. Theophilus Sauls, was born 25 December 1843 in Twiggs Co., Ga. She died 22 July 1903 in Pulaski Co., Ga. And is buried in an un-marked grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery., Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. Mary filed for a Confederate Widow’s Pension. In her Application she listed vital information on herself. They only had two (2) children born to their marriage and tragically lost both sons on the same day. The were aged 15 and 18. Like other member of the family he was Baptized at Laurens Hill Baptist Church on 20 July 1855. He remained a member until 13 March 1880. 5. Francis Partin, the only dau of Henrietta “Retta” Forest and Kindred Allison Partain, was born 23 June 1837 in Laurens Co., Ga. and died 4 October 1914 in Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. She married Andrew Jackson Thompson., Sr. on 15 February 1855 in Laurens Co., Ga. He was born 30 March 1832 near Touches., Virginia and died 25 September 1911 in Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. Andrew and wife Francis are buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery., Cochran., Bleckley Co., Ga. Andrew Jackson Thompson., Sr., was a Wealthy Merchant., Methodist and served in the Confederate States Army in Co., “E”., 4th Georgia Cavlary. Fourteen (14) children were born to this marriage, not all survived. 6. John Septimus Partin, youngest child born, was born 7 April 1838 in Laurens Co., Ga. and died 3 March 1906. He is buried in the Thompson Cemetery., Laurens Co., Ga. This cemetery was located directly behind the ole Buckhorn Post Office. Before it was torn down a picture was taken and you see through the building this cemetery. Andrew Jackson Thompson., Sr., at one time was Post Master. The Cemetery was named after his family. He has children buried there. John Septimus Partin married first on 13 January 1865 in Laurens Co., Ga., to Mary Amanda Witherington Faircloth, widow of John Taylor Faircloth (1837 - 1863) who died in the Civil War. Note: John Faircloth and Mary had two (2) sons. Mary was the dau. of Nancy Jane Keen (1809 -1879) and James Witherington (abt 1805 - 1843 ). Mary’s mother Nancy Keen, was the dau. of Polly Towns ( dates unknown ) and John Keen., Jr. ( abt. 1775 - abt. 1838 ) and granddaughter of Elizabeth Curlee (abt. 1755 - 1845) and John Keen., Sr., (abt. 1750 - 1803) a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. Mary Amanda Witherington was born 15 September 1841 in Laurens Co., Ga. and died 24 August 1884. She was buried in the Hobbs Cemetery., Laurens Co., Ga. Where her mother was buried. From this marriage (John Septimus and Mary) they had six (6) children. John Septimus Partin married a second time in (1889 ) to Carrie Thigpen ( 1869 - Unknown ) but there was no issue came from this marriage. Records of this marriage have not been located. Ref: 1900 Census of Laurens Co., Ga. indicates they have been married for eleven (11) years. John Septimus Partin served in the Confederate States Army in Co.,“E”., 4th Georgia Calvary. John would later receive a Confederate Pension for his services during the Civil War. Compiled By: M Sgt. Robert K.
