Pyles (1856-1919), son of Lewis G. Pyles and Mary S. Remington moved from Thomasville, GA to Cincinnati, OH sometime after 1880. On 11 April 1883, he married Jennie Marie (Mary J.) Garwood. Known as Mary J., she was born about 1858 in Cincinnati. After her husband, Samuel died, she continued to live in CA and died 13 Feb. 1936. Mary J. was the daughter of Harriet Raxter (1832-1917) and Richard Garwood (1831-1853). Harriet moved to CO and later CA. On the 1910 U. S. Census in Santa Monica, CA, she was in the household next to her daughter and son-in-law. Mary J. was still in Santa Monica on the 1920 Census and La Crescenta, CA in 1930. At that time, she lived with her brother, George Garwood and owned a gas station. Additional Comments: Addendum to Samuel R. Pyles and Mary S. Remington files. More can be gleaned with a Google search of Judis Family History and a Family Search online. Several biographers of CSA Colonels of Lee's Army in VA have expressed a desire for a portrait of Lewis G. Pyles. A picture of him in a CSA uniform and his Bible was last known to be in Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL last owned by descendants of Lewis' sister, Frances Sophia Pyles Hope's daughter, Lewis G. P. Hope. She was named by her mother in honor of her brother.
