Located on private property off of Singletary Rd, between Thomasville and Cairo Survey taken by Paul Barwick and shared with me, Susan Barwick Elliott PERRY BOWEN September 24, 1798 April 23, 1862 MARY BOWEN July 30, 1805 July 27, 1883 (wife of Perry) Newspaper obit Thomas Co, GA 1883 Mrs. Mary "Polly" Bowen, relict of the late Perry Bowen died July 26th, 1883, at her home in the 18th district of this county on last Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, aged 78 years. She was born July 31, 1805. Mrs. Bowen was well as usual up to a few minutes of her death, but seemed to be impressed with the belief that the end was near. Her son, Mr Rueben Bowen and his wife had made arrangements to come to town in the morning and while making ready she told them that she would not live to see them again. They thought but little of this as she often spoke of not having much longer to stay here. When ready to start, she came out to the gate and told them good-bye, saying it was the last time she should see them. This so impressed them that they abandoned the visit. She then told her son to go after her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Singletary, about three miles distant. She was still apparently as well as usual. In a few minutes he was ready to go for his sister and stepping into the house found his mother lying upon the bed. He spoke to her but she could not speak. Holding out both her hands she seized his and held them in a warm embrace for a few seconds and was dead. She had long been a citizen of the county and was well known to nearly all the older and many of the younger people. She was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church and had been a devoted Christian for perhaps upwards of sixty years. Her life was a success, her mission had been faithfully served and now the Master had called her home. The remains were interred in the family burying ground on her place at 9:00 O'clock on Friday morning. R.H.
