Tait and Thomas Adams Sr. State of Georgia } County of Thomas } Know all men by these present that I William A. Tait of the county and State aforesaid for and in the consideration of five dollars cash in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these present the receipt hereof is hereby acknowledged the better securing the payment of a certain promissory note under seal said William, day made and delivered to said Thomas Adams Sr. of the same place bearing (?) with these presents and to balance due on the first day of January, next ensuing the date hereof by said William A. Tait promises to pay said Thomas Adams Sr. on (?) Seven Hundred dollars with interest from the first day of January last for value received have bargained and to Thomas Adams Sr a certain Negro woman slave about twenty six years of age named Nancy and her child Henry about two years old. To have and to hold the said gained property to him the said Thomas Adams Sr. his heirs and assigns forever. And I the said William A. Tait for myself my heirs executors and administrators said bargained property unto the said Thomas Adams Sr. his heirs and assigns against all and every other (?) and (?) whatever shall and will warrant and by these presents Provided nevertheless that if the said William A. Tait his Executors and Administrators, shall do will truly pay or cause to be grieved unto the said Thomas Adams Sr. his heirs and assigns the afore mentioned sum of Seven Hundred Dollars are the mentioned and appointed for the payment thereof in said promises by note under seal lawful interest for the same acceding to the (?) of said note then and (?) as well this bill of sale and the rights to the (?) thereby conveyed as the said missinary note under seal shall cease (?) and be (?) to all intents and purposes. In testamentary whereof the said William A. Tait hath unto set his and affixed his seal this 4th of March AD 1853 William A. Tait. {seal} Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of N. R. Carnes James H. Hayes Entered this the 21st March 1853 Jared Everitt, CLK Additional Comments: This record above was found in the Thomas County Court House while searching for Land Deeds. Noted on the 1860 Slave census for Decatur County Georgia, it does state that he owned two slaves, one female and one male. I can not and have not done any further research on the two that was purchased in 1853.
