DASTARDLY DEED OF ASSASSIN THROUGH OPEN WINDOW WOMAN WAS SHOT AS SHE LAY ASLEEP IN BED. Sunday morning about day, the wife of L.R. Snipes, who lives in Hansell, a small station below Meigs, Ga., was shot by an unknown person. She was in bed, the shot being fired through a window. The bullrt entered the right breast and ranged downward through the lungs, liver and kidney. She is in critcal condition. It is thought that the shot was aimed at her husband who was in bed with her. Three white boys have been arrested and lodged Thomasville jail on circumstantial evidence. The Schley County News Thursday, August 4, 1904 Vol. XIV No. 32. BULLET OF ASSASSIN PROVES FATAL MRS. SNIPES WHO WAS SHOT WHILE SHE SLEPT, SUCCUMBS TO WOUND. Mrs. L.R. Snipes who was shot in bed by an unknown assassin early Sunday morning at Hansell, Ga., died Monday afternoon. Morgan and Arch Tindall and Matthew Thompson, three boys about twenty years old each, are in jail at Thomasville charged with the murder. The evidence against them is entirely circumstantial, but the circumstances pointing to the guilt of one of them is very strong. The Schley County News Thursday, August 11, 1904 Vol. XIV No. 33. MURDERED BY UNKNOWN PARTY The coroner's jury impanelled at Thomasville to inquire into the killing of Mrs. L.A. Snipes, after a second sitting, returned the verdict that she was murdered by an unknown party.
