A coroner's jury which met this morning, reach- ed a verdict of murder. The slaying is said to have occurred on Hall's Alley in the Tockwotton negro quarters in the eastern part of the city, at the home of a neighbor of the participants. Two negro women witnessed the crime. According to reports of the inci- dent, Rowan is said to have entered the house where his wife was visiting and asked her to come outside. She refused and a few words passed be- tween the two, and Rowan is said to have drawn a pistol and fired two shots, one striking the woman in the temple and the other in the body. The negro is sad to have then gone out into the yard of the house and pretended to shoot himself, fir- ing in a ditch and fleeing.
