W. E. Hobbs, of Tifton, Holiness Preacher, Dies at White School House. Rev. W. E. Hobbs, of Tifton, a mem- ber of the Church of God, or what is generally known as the "Holly Roller" church died while preaching a sermon last night at " White School House " seven miles north of this city. It is said that just before collapsing, the minister had reached a high pitch of religious fervor and that his audience was likewise affected. It was several minutes before any of the audience realized that there was anything wrong with their leader after he collapsed to the floor. Holder and Clark's ambu- lance was called by telephone and made a hurry up run to the school building. It is thought that he was dead when they arrived, but he was rushed to the hospital for treatment, which was of no avail. Mr. Hobbs had been speaking on the subject of tithing. He had quoted fre- quently from the scriptures regarding tithing, gave instances of men who had tithed and prospered and then made the statement that if he had to die he would want to die while preaching "Holiness." He told the large congregation some- thing concerning his sons and then said: "Well, I am pretty old, sank to his knees and died five minutes la- ter. Mr. Hobbs was fifty four years of age and leaves a wife and fourteen children to survive him. He had preached in this section for some years and had a large following in the rural churches.
