May 25, 1922 BARWICK Barwick, Ga. May 25, -- Mr.and Mrs. Jim Ostricker, of Quitman,were in town on business, Tuesday. Miss Thelma of Fort Meade, Fla. is visiting relatives here. Mr. Emmitt Brooks, of Barwick,has returned from the Southern Baptist convention held at Jacksonville, Fla. Little Miss Juanita Bruce is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Harry Redfearn, of Pavo, for a few days. Remember, the Barwick, B. Y. P. U. meets on Friday night and everybody has a special invitation to come and be with us. Miss Mary Owens, of Boston,was in town for a short time Tuesday. Mr.Thomas Bruce was in Boston on business on Tuesday. Mrs. Fred Ostricker, of Dixie, was in town Wednesday for a short while. ______________________ SINGLETARY Gathering and shiping cucumbers is the order of the day in this community now, the prices are very low the growers are very blue over it. Mr. H. Waterhouse, of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Lem Singletary of Pelham, spent Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Singletary. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Braswell, Mr. Ben Braswell, and Miss Wenson Brasweldl, of the Chason community, spent Sunday here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Braswell. Mr. and Mrs. John McMilan and baby Edna, visited relatives in Thomasville last weekend. Mr. John Connell, of Ochlocknee spent Saturday at the home of Mr. J. J. Hale. The many friends of Mr. Lamar Braswell, will be glad to know that he is up from his recent spell of sickness, and spent Tuesday here with his brother, Mr. Russell Braswell. Misses. Ola Beverly and Bessie McMath, of Thomasville spent the weekend with Miss Marie Hale. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Singletary, Paul and Robert Singletary and Miss. Sarah Singletary enjoyed the hospitality of Messers. Ondley Joe, and Harvey Stanfill, at a real fish fry. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Pendergast spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Braswell. Quite a number of the young people attended a candy drawing, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hesters, Saturday night and report a very pleasant time. Mrs. Nell Waterhouse and little daughter, Elizabeth, spent Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Singletary. Mr. W. L. Wilder, is spending a few day's here with his family. A few of the young people of this community, joined some of their friends of other sections and spent Sunday at the Lime Sink. Among those that attended were Missis Alice and Sarah Singletary, Foy Ethel and Erie McRory, Marie Hale, Bessie McMath, Messers Tom Coleman, Harrell Lambert, B. Dunn, Stanton Chastain, Olen Pendergast, Beverly and Alton Hale. _____________________________ SOUTH GEORGIA NEWS CORRESPONDENCE Americus, Ga. May 25, - - - Eleven cents per pound for tops, the highest price commanded by hogs here in more that a year, was paid for two carloads yesterday at Leslie, this county. The buyer was T. W. Hollis, a commission man. The lot totaled 157 head and brought $2,830.05. Ten and a half cents was paid for the No. 2 Chicago market for choice tops yesterday was 10.65. ____________________________ SIX CARLOADS PEACHES Americus, Ga., May 25 - - One car of peaches, the first of the season, was shipped from Sumter county Tuesday and five more cars yesterday. First car honors went to T. B. Hooks. _________________________ MAJOR PATRICK ARRIVES IN AMERICUS ON INSPECTON Americus, Ga. May 25 - - Major General Mason Patrick, chief of Air Service, was a visitor at Souther Field yesterday, flying here from Carlstom Field, Fla., on a trip of inspec- tion. ___________________________ AMERICUS POST AMERICAN LEGION PLANNING MINSTREL Americus, Ga. May 25 - - A home talent minstrel, which is to be an elaborate affair, will be staged June 15 by the local American Legion post as the first steps in raising funds to provide a home for the Legion. __________________________ CAMILLA MAKES FIRST SHIPMENT OF CANTALOUPES Albany, GA. May 25 - - The first shipment of cantaloupes was reported yesterday from Camilla. J. F. Hooks, clerk of the Mitchell county Superior Court, shipping two crates, which was said to be the earliest ever shipped from Georgia. Mr. Hooks has 100 acres plan- ted in cantaloupes which form a part of the large area devoted to this crop in Mitchell and surrounding counties.
